i have a p4p800 deluxe with a 3.4 prescott and four (4) one gig sticks of
pc3200 ddr400 memory... all identical

Two Kits:
Rosewill 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual
Channel Kit System Memory

putting one kit in reports 2 gigs of memory
putting both kits in the bios reports 3.25gigs
Windows reports 3.25gigs

CPU-Z-127 reports all slots filled with identical 1024mb memory sticks

any clues as to what is going on?

same problem here!
The problem is that the ram is double sided. The board doesn't like it.
I've gone back for 2x 1gig!
Look at the asus site. The compatibility is shown there for the ram configs.

The available address space if 4GB. That space must be used to
address chips on PCI busses, as well as your RAM. To make room
for both requirements, a "hole" is punched in the RAM, and as
a consequence, the DIMMs cannot be entirely used. To reduce the
losses, you could use a PCI video card, as that should eliminate
the need for any AGP resources. That is not a very good
compromise.

I believe if you consult your owner's manual you will discover that that
motherboard model is LIMITED to 3 GB of RAM.

No,

that's not the problem for me.
I've got 2x512MB running fine at Dual Channel 400Mhz. But stocking it up to
4x 512mb it will only show me 1,5GB Single or Virtual Single Channel.
in this case it's not the 4GB problem.

If the board is not able to read the SPD EEPROM on one of the DIMMs,
that would account for your symptoms. Take one stick of RAM, and
methodically try it in each socket. On one of the sockets, the
motherboard will complain it has no RAM. It could be that the
SMBUS pins that connect to that socket are not making good contact.

But the compatibility table on the asus site is showing that the CMX Corsair
is not compatible in four slots. It's not working. just two. I think the
problem is the double sided rams!
All slots are full functional.

Sorry,
I've tested you tip and put one ram in each slot.
And.. tata one of the black slots don't recognising the ram.
Is ´the hardware broken or is it just a slot that doesn't like double sided
rams?
But i can't do nothig the asus table is in this case correct!!! :-(

It means one of two things.

Either the socket pins are contaminated (have a foreign substance
coating the pins), or the Northbridge is damaged. The thing is,
the recognition of DIMMs starts with access via the slow speed
serial SMBUS. It could be those pins that aren't making good
contact.

Try inserting and removing the DIMM into the broken slot,
several times. That will help clean the pins off. Inspect
the pins in the DIMM socket, to see if any are bent or
broken.

If there is no improvement, use the motherboard warranty and
get it fixed by Asus.

This is a problem with a broken DIMM socket, and has nothing
to do with any Asus compatibility (QVL) tables.
