Hello,
I want configure a system with an asus P5LD2 Deluxe

I want use two IDE hard disk in raid 1 (mirror) mode.
I've 6 Pata/Ultra dma device : 2 DVD, 2 independant hard disk and 2 disk
configured in Raid 1 mode

Unlike previous p5AD2 Deluxe with ITE 8212F Pata controller, which provide
raid feature, the P5LD2 contain ITE 8211F without Raid feature

there is also an Intel ICH7 southbridge, with 4 sata and 1 ultradma port

do you known if we can configure the ultradma port in raid 1?

ITE 8211F IDE controller datasheet:
http://www.iteusa.com/product_info/PC/Brief-IT8211_2.asp
http://www.iteusa.com/product_info/file/pc/IT8211F_V0.2.1.pdf

Intel ICH7 Southbridge datasheet:
ftp://download.intel.com/design/chipsets/datashts/30701301.pdf

Page 40 of the ICH7 document, seems to be suggesting the
RAID function still only applies to the SATA interfaces.
So the PATA interface is only for non-RAID configs.

Is there some way to run a software RAID in Windows, using
the PATA interfaces on the 8211F ? I know there is a hack
for running Windows RAID5 on vanilla ports, but cannot
tell you the best/cheapest route to getting other
RAID functions in software only.

You could also buy a couple of SATA disks, and keep the PATA
drives for the occasional backup of your mirrored SATA.

thank you.
I selected the Gigabyte GA-8I945P Pro with an ITE-8212F ultra dma
controller with raid
