Dual Core Motherboards support non-Dual CPU's

Do some of the new motherboards supporting Dual-Core CPU's also support all
the older CPU's assuming the socket is the same, obviously?

Yup. ASUS support - go to downloads, then select your MOBO in
question. On the lower left there is a link for CPU support. Shows
what CPU's work on what MOBO's at which BIOS levels.
