I just setup a P5WD2 Premium with a P4 3.4 and an SATA primary HD. I
am attempting to load the OS from a DVD writer (also tried a vanilla
CD-ROM device). What occurs under Linux is that the CD boots from the
CD-ROM (or DVD) and begines the install process, but when it attempt to
access the CD from within the install the installer can't find a CD-ROM
device (odd considering that this is the device the installer is
running from).
The same behavior occurs when I try to install Windows (XP or Server
2003) in that the CD boots, the install begins, but when it gets to the
"Starting Windows" point it blue screens with a hard drive error.
I've tried attaching the CD devices in different ways, using the
Primary EIDE connector, the Secondary EIDE connector, the Blue Primary
IDE connector, and have fiddled with all the options for IDE/SATA in
the BIOS. Do I need a SATA CD-ROM to make this work?
Many thanks in advance for any assistance/suggestions.
