Recycling nightmare

After upgrading our network to SBS2003 we recycled our old
server which has an Intel L440GX mainboard. We installed
XP Pro with the ACPI option disabled at installation time.

We upgraded the system BIOS from Intel's website but still
getting instablity and event logs as follows:

AMLI:ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO
port address (0x71), which lies in the 0x70 - 0x71
protected address range. This could lead to system
instability.

Sure enough we are getting crashes all the time in
IEXPLORE, WORD you name it.

Would be grateful for any ideas short or replacing the
motherboard. (Possibly disabling ACPI in registry??)

If anything, I would make sure ACPI was enabled in the BIOS, then do a
clean install of Windows XP. I have had nothing but problems with using
MPS instead of ACPI. Also, once you have done that, install the latest
chipset drivers for your motherboard. I really don't think there is a
hardware problem here, but rather a software configuration problem.
Hopefully a clean install of Windows should fix the problem.
