I have a usb keyboard that I connect to my ps/2 port via
an adapter. When I hold down a key the computer will
stop responding for a second until I let it go. Normal
typing seems to work fine. Also, when I use the
navigator keys that are built to work with windows media
player the keyboard will stop responding completely after
several uses of those keys

What keyboard is this? If you can, try connecting it through USB and
see if these problems still exist. Finally, try updating the
drivers/software for the keyboard.
