Hi,

maybe i'm not very clever...

i want to install a new harddisc on the primary ATA connector.
additionally i want to use the secondary IDE connector for installing
windows from cd on that harddisc. the harddisc is unformatted.

while booting from cd windows xp does not find this harddisc.
it has a capacity of 160gb. is that the problem ? do i have to use anything
like fdisk first ?

what can i do ?

thanx for your help.

48bit HDD Support List (i.e. for drives bigger than 128GB)

P4PE
Support Status = Yes
Since BIOS version = 1001

Is the disk plugged to "PRI_IDE" or to "PRI_RAID1" ?
PRI_IDE might work without installing a driver via F6,
but the RAID connector likely requires a driver be
installed, early in the install process. To use the
PRI_RAID1, you might need a driver on a floppy
disk, installed by pressing F6 when prompted during the
install process.

Does the disk show up in the BIOS screen during POST ?
If not, check the jumper setting on the disk. Single
master or cable select etc.

The P4PE motherboard with it's original BIOS CANNOT recognize a harddrive
larger than 137 GB. You would need to upgrade the BIOS.
