All US Analog Broadcasting To Terminate By 2009

The United States Congress has approved a definite date in which TV broadcasters will have to switch from analog to digital

President Bush signed legislation earlier this week that will officially end analog broadcasting on Feb. 17, 2009, which is the date that all U.S. broadcasters must stop transmitting analog television signals. Viewers who have analog TVs will have to purchase a converter after the transition is complete. Along with the legislation, $1.5B USD in funding will be offered to provide two $40 USD vouchers for every household to be used to purchase converter boxes. The bill will free up 60 MHz of spectrum that will be given to the highest bidders of wireless-broadband and cell phone providers.

The bill passed a very close 216-214 vote by the House of Representatives before the bill reached and was signed by the President.

I wonder how much a converter will cost....

I'm still using my old 27" TV but I'm sure I'll have gone digital by then so it's a moot point.

I now offically hate you.
YOU are the person i hate at work because they dont know this is comming.

Seriously i talk about this probably 75-100 times a day.

2009 cuts it off, you dont have to buy a new TV. The converter boxes areprjected to cost roughly $150. Now i'll bet they will be no more hen $50 but all the crazy Wall St people i have seen say 150-200

And just so you know....because i say this all the time too....We are not going HD in 2009, Digital is not High Def.

I have a standard definition digital cable box for my tv.
Cable tv costs me $27 a month and I bought the converter for $100.
If I had an HD ready TV the HD digital cable box costs $200. The cable tv subscription is $27 whether or not you have HD TV. In Canada we don't have too many HD television stations. A couple of nation wide networks provide some HD television shows and so do some cable movie and sports networks. I think there are a few 100% HD stations but I don't really pay attention to it. Considering all the bullshit I'm going thru.
