New build, less than a year old. I'm using the onboard sound for now.
Last night, there was a pop from the subwoofer on a pair of
speakers I was using, RealTek errored out with an "EAccess Violation",
and nothing. The CD I had in the drive was still playing, but I got
no sound. Speakers were hooked up to the rear mobo lineout. I tried
two other sets of speakers and one set of headphones in both the rear
jack and front case jack; nothing.
The speakers that caused things to die in the first place do work on
another computer, as do all the other ones I have.
So, what seems to be the issue here? I may just buy a soundcard
anyway, as at this point it would be easier and probably cheaper than
trying to RMA the board (I don't even know if the sound is in fact
dead, or even what exactly happened).
