Ok, no fan boys here, i want honest opinion, i dont care if you have a 3000 dollar pc or a 360, give honest opinions. I have a killer gaming computer 2x7800 and all. But i was just thinking, i spend SO much on my computer to get superior graphics for video games...and i jst wonder..."why not just get a 360" ( i dont care if you think consols suck, im a huge pc fan and always hated consols, but it looks pretty killer with NO slow downs" why would i want to spend 580 bucks on the latest graphics card when i can buy a 360 for the same price? it just dawned on my now looking at a trailer with a split screen of the pc's version of farcry, and 360's version, and the 360, shamefully, looks a shitload better. Id buy a 360.....but...iv never gotten a straight answer..if you can use a keyboard and mouse yet..does anyone know? the only games i play are fps's...so theres no way il want to use a controller again. But 3000 bucks for a gaming computer, when the 360 has the graphics i want. and since im picky, i hate slow downs, and if theres one thing i hate, is seeing loss of frames in video games....so if anyone knows , does the 360 accept mouse and keyboard? whats your opinions on the 360 vs a high end pc?-jim
I'm not a big gamer, so take my comments with a grain of salt.
But the FarCry PC vs. xBox360 comparison didn't seem fair to me. The PC version is how old now?
And I don't think you can use a mouse/keyboard with any console. Why? I don't know. But I would really rather play FPS games that way. And RTS games too.
1. Farcry on the pc is old as...try comparing COD2 with the 360 version of COD2....
2. The games will ONLY look like that if you have HDTV if you dontthen it looks like the last gen games...
3. you can get a mouse for the console but a keyboard im not to sure, plus while your 360 gfx might be better now in about 6 month time they will be outdated, considering the console has to last 5 years, its better with a PC.
i have an hdtv, its called an 19 inch crt, and a 40 dollar adapter would allow me to play 360 on my monitor. and id prolly agree with you about the new graphics coming out every 6 months, if this was 2 years ago. but the games now...the graphics seem to be at a hault. i dont see how you can get much better than the unreal engine, which isnt coming out till the end of this year or next year. something that will cost PC gamers to spend alot more cash to get the graphics and smooth playability they are looking for, or just a mear 400 bucks for a 360.... :-/
1. I think the games on PC are much better... esp. first person shooters. Look at all the great FPS in the last 2 years... HL2, Doom3, Quake 4, FEAR, Serious Sam 2, and a slew of others. Yes- these games EVENTUALLY make it to the console, but it takes forever. HL2 took like 1.5 years.
2. Like everyone else is saying, if you don't have an HDTV, Xbox360 is frigin pointless. On the other hand, your PC monitor is already HD.
3. Price. Xbox 360 titles are $60-$70 minimum, wait like 2 months and new releases for PC are usually around $40... at the most $50.
4. Multiplayer. First off, there's no comparison between Xbox Live! and gamespy or any other PC multiplayer. You can do more (like mods... Counterstrike) and it's free.
I'm not a console hater. I have a Xbox. However, there are clear advantages PC's have over consoles... for me all are listed above. If you just care about "eye candy" then yeah, you're probably going to save a buttload if you get a Xbox 360. Otherwise, actual gameplay is far superior on the PC.
The Revolution. It might be the first console I buy since the PSX.
It's cheap, small, low noise, low power and with what looks like innovative ideas for games/gaming. The only thing missing for a sure buy is adequate third party support: I don't want to buy a console just for Mario 1-48 and Zelda part 7-22.
Don't get a console to replace a PC. It complements it. It can't compare to it.
I play games at 1920x1200 and get them on sale for $20-$30, sometimes $40 right when they come out. I can play the games how I want to, mouse, keyboard, joystick, and not be restricted.
You can't just go out and buy a 360 and hope for the same quality in graphics. Are you going to really play a 360 alone on a 19" CRT or are you hoping to split screen it?
I only play one online game, and that of course, is Counter strike source. Im a graphics junkie...and if i have to buy 2 graphics cards, just to run something smooth as hell, the 360 sounds better (coming from a huge pc fan for 5 years) sure call of duty 2 on pc looks better cuz it has more anti aliasing options, but it also slows down in parts where theres a massive ammount of detail, which the 360 does not. So im not looking to play split screen with a friend, since i have counter strike. im looking for graphics. period. the better the graphics, the better the game (in my opinion) and i wouldnt be getting a consol to replace the pc, but the graphics you get on the 360 is a fraction of the price you could get on the pc, and still, theres no garauntee that your framerates are always going to be above 60 on a pc. its just not gonna happen, well, without spending 3 grand that is.
BTW, I spend about $700 on each upgrade. I don't know where you're getting your $3000 figure from.
Nobody says you need to get the fastest card out everytime in SLI. Go one step back.
A 7800GT will do most everything you need and they're under $300. Now for me, I have a 24" LCD so I might want more but I've got a x800xl and it does pretty well.
You don't need the fastest processor out so that shouldn't be more than about $200. A couple hundred for memory and motherboard......
