My cousin's computer (running on Windows 98) is freezing
randomly, and has to be restarted. I've scanned for
viruses, defragmented, scandisked but still no luck.
Still freezes randomly, cursor and all. I decided that
the best thing to do was do a system restore but she
hasn't got her disk anymore. I know I can't use my XP,
due to serial numbers(or something along these lines) so
I was going to install Windows 95 from a CD we had for a
computer that's now in computer heaven. The computer
won't let me, say you can't go back to Windows 95 from
98, anyone know what I should do?

How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the Format Tool to Partition or
Repartition a Hard Disk
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;255867

1. Delete the Windows XP partition.
2. Create a new partition.
3. Format the new partition FAT32.
4. Install your desired Operating System.

Hello Mick

Yes that is correct you can not go from win98 to win95
and besides you really don't want to do that. I would suggest
you backup your important data and do a clean install ok
win98, or win xp provided you purcahse it and do a clean
install of what ever OS you will load.

Determine what the cause of the "freezing" is before you
start willy-nilly making changes. It could be hardware
problems such as over-heating or a software conflict. If
the power supply is weak that could also cause problems.

If you need a W98 CD, they can still be found and purchased.
If the computer meets the requirements you can BUY an XP CD
