Minor issue with panel LED's with K7VTA3

Just did the Fry's special of a K7VTA3 and a Athlon XP 2600+ for $89. All
went smoothly and WinXP running well and stable. I am still pretty much a
newbie , though this wasn't my first such upgrade. Each time I learn a
little more.

Just this minor issue: The old case I put it in had a three pin connector
for the power led and the HDD LED connector had a three pin connector too ,
though with nothing in the middle pin. So my one issue is that the power
and HDD LED's don't work - the power switch and reset button are fine. I
could live with it I guess - but would rather just get it all working right.

Can I buy two-pin connectors and just cut the wires and re-do it ? Does it
require soldering, or are there some that just squeeze in ? Any
suggestions ?

Thanks a lot.

I just lift up the sliver of black plastic that holds the connector in
and pull it out. You can then move it to the middle slot. Then plug it
into the power connector so the third empty slot hangs off.

This is what I've always done: The three-pin connectors should have a
wire plugged in at each edge - carefully pry up the plastic retainer
strip (the tip of a pen knife should work fine) for one edge connector
and gently pull out the wire (it may take several tries and some
jiggling around to get it out). Then simply put the lead back into the
center connector. Then you have two adjacent connections that should
plug in to the motherboard (with the empty connector "hanging over").
The advantage of doing it this way is that it's completely reversible
in case you need to go back to the original configuration.
I just bought the same combo from Fry's for 85$ and had to do this
mod.
I also bought a K7VTA3 and XP2200+ for 60$. The XP2200+ was a Thornton
core which runs at 1800mHz. I changed the FSB to 166 and it now runs
stable at 2250mHz with stock voltage.
Good Luck!

Thanks guys - I will get the razor knife out and give it a try. Is there
polarity for the panel LED's ? i.e. is it important which pin is which ?

If it doesn't work the first time, move the connectors around. It's easy.
