K7S5A-Pro ; USB companion controller ?

Until recently I had all USB stuff disabled on my K7S5A-Pro. The other day I bought a USB scanner, plugged it into one of the USB 2.0 ports and enabled "VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller" and everything works fine.
However, I was wondering what the two "VIA rev 5 or later USB universal host companion controllers" in the Device Manager are for, and whether there's any point in enabling them?

Last week, I was nosing around and spotted the VIA devices on my Sis
motherboard. This computer was running on a VIA motherboard before I
moved to the Sis so I thought that I could remove the VIA artifacts.

Not so. Win 2k put them right back so I guess they are a necessary
part of the usb chipset.
