I've got K7S5A V1.0 with the original bios 04/02/01. I want to upgrade
the bios because sometimes on boot-up all the bios settings go away and
I have to re-set everything. Also I want to mound the largest HDD
possible,(forget using an overlay bios).
I can't find any new bios for it on ECS web site.
What should I use?
Thanks,
Frank

The HoneyX Bios is very good.
But, the problem you're having is very common with this MB, regardless of the
BIOS version.
There are several 'fixes' , but I have not heard on one that always works.
The only real fix is to probably get a new MB such as Asrock, which is cheap and
reliable, or so I've heard.
My K7S5a ver 3.1 started doing that after about 1 1/2 yrs.
I just got used to resetting the BIOS settings.
It may happen twice in a week, or not for several months.
It only happens on a cold boot, never on a reboot (reset button or restart
button).

I believe Asus own's the Asrock brand.
I've heard that ECS makes motherboards for Asus.
Could it be that the Asrock board you are going to buy is
make by the same people that make your K7S5A ?
My one year old K7S5A PRO is just starting
to lose it's bios setting on cold boots.
Just ordered a PcChips M848ALU to replace it ($43).
ECS own's PcChips.

Asus is a very respected MB mfg.
PcChips, however, has had a poor rep.
ECS also had a less then 'great' rep.
Perhaps, those are 'old' reps.

Yeah exactly the same problem. What really pisses me off is that I want
to flash the bios but can't do it with any flash program. Then again
these are "econo" boards.

If I was building a serious server, Asus
would be at the top of my list.
I would guess that Asus looked at how many more
motherboards ECS sells.
At my local Fry's electronics's they have stacks
and stacks of ECS motherboards
I would say they sell
50 ECS(& PcChips)boards for every one Asus.

Hi,
first of all, please check your onboard battery. It should have at least
3.0 Volt.
All 2.9 2.8 etc. Volt is like the battery is empty. So get a new one
which should have 3.3 Volt.

Also check your memory settings:
DRAM Timing Mode "safe"
SDR/DDR CAS Latency "3T"
SDR/DDR RAS Active Time "7T"
SDR/DDR RAS Precharge Time "4T"

The CMOS Error happens if the SPD EEPROM of your memory modules has
wrong data, and it could result in such a CMOS lost as you describe.

Hope it could help you,
kr
Michael

HoneyX BIOS, as described before by the author, is NOT changed in capability
of the original BIOS, but rather the "viewablilty" of options in the
original BIOS that have been hidden by ECS...i.e. it is the mfg. BIOS.

Honey-X, if you're reading...am I wrong?
