Hello,
I have an ECS K7S5A Pro (5.0) (SiS 735 Chipset) motherboard with 640
MB of DDR (512 and 128) and AMD 2600+ processor. Bios version is ECS
version 30811. This is working from a new installation of Windows XP
Pro. Everything works fine until I install my PCI to SATA controller
(either Adaptec 1205SA or SIIG PCI to SATA adapter) in any PCI slot
and attach my Plextor PX-716SA drive. If the drive is not attached to
the SATA controller, the drivers will load fine for either card and
Windows XP Pro boots fine and Device Manager looks great. As soon as
I attach the Plextor PX-716SA to either SATA controller Port, upon
boot, Windows XP Pro will show the startup splash screen for a long
time, and then go to a black screen. I have used the SIIG PCI to SATA
adapter and PX-716SA combination in another system and it works fine.
(ASUS A7V). I went out and got an Adaptec 1205SA to try to fix the
problem, but found it was also based on the Sil3112 SATA chip, same as
the SIIG V2.0 PCI to SATA adapter. I did swap out the SATA cable and
Plextor SATA power cable, but no difference. Again, either SATA
adapter seems to work fine in the system until the Plextor PX-716SA is
connected. Is there a compatibility issue between the SiS735 and/or
30811 BIOS that won’t allow my Plextor PX-716SA to work? Do you have
any suggestions, Motherboard BIOS flash or otherwise, that might allow
me to get this combination of hardware to work?
