Video looks epic for sure, and Tobad I cant say the same for gameplay itself along with lame DRM.

pleez pleez someone pleez tell me why anyone would get worked up over trailer that shows no actual gameplay?!??!?!? I have never understood that. Movie trailers at the very least show you clips of the ACTUAL movie. But most game trailers never show any footage and people get all wet in their pants for them. At least Diablo was playable a week ago so, I know why people are excited. But if I hadn't seen the actual gameplay who the f*ck would care?!?!?!?

"A new Diablo game? A new DIABLO GAME?!?!?! SHUT UP BLIZZARD TAKE MY MONEY!!! It's coming omg omg omg!!!"

or to the newcomer to the franchise:

"Angels. Demons. Evil. What is this? Hmmm. Diablo.com... oh this game play and story looks cool, let me read more about it."

As they say... resumes are for getting you an interview. Commercials, not even exclusive to games, use the same logic - to get you to think about it, when otherwise you might not have been. It doesn't have to be informative. It just has to say the name and that's it.

Diablo's a great game, but this latest one with simplified mechanics and gold farmers market......not too sure about it. I think I'm leaning on the side of Torchlight 2, myself. We'll see how it turns out.

watched gameplay on youtube the other day.....endless hordes upon endless hordes of hack and slashing. how is this fun? in about two minutes of video the main character moved about 30 in-game feet. i'll stick to skyrim, when i actually have TIME to play pc games....

D3 was being bashed by some of my fellow beta testers, but frankly I think their comments came mostly out of an unacknowledged jaded viewpoint. The last Diablo was released in 2000 - how can they expect it to feel the same? They are not the gamers they were 12 years ago.

Frankly, Diablo was never a great game, in my opinion, just a good one. Now that you know I'm not a lover of the game, just a "liker", I can make the comment that this one is far better than D2 in every way, and you can put that in perspective :)  . I'll play it mostly because it was part of the Annual Pass deal (you signed a contract guaranteeing that you'd pay for a year's worth of World of Warcraft to get 3 benefits. If you were certain you'd be paying for another year, these things were essentially free). I'm essentially playing the game for free. If I had to buy it, I wouldn't bother.

It IS fun though, and I'm glad I was able to get it for a price I was willing to pay; I will play it through at least once, certainly. And, I'm not recommending against paying full retail, I do think the game will be worth the price for the overwhelming majority of players.

The word of caution I give is to all those players with fond memories; the fact is, you are a seasoned vet gamer now, and no company is going to release a game that the average person can't play; pros are always left in the lurch to some degree. There is a "hardmode", but unless they tweak it from the beta, it isn't enough harder to warrant the "hardmode" label, the only thing that lives up to that is the fact that it is a permadeath mode. Die, end of story for that character, create a new one. That's a step in the right direction, in my opinion, but I think I'd rather have a much harder mode than a permadeath mode, and a chance to choose both.

If you haven't played the previous games - I recommend you don't go back, they are just too dated (I had played the original, but not D2, so I did get a copy recently and played it. Let me put it this way - I got almost to the end, then my beta access became available, and I didn't bother to finish it.) You'll miss the occasional reference to old characters, but frankly I don't think it's worth the effort to play D2 to "get it", those references don't make any real difference to the quality of the story.

;)

When I bought my brand new car in march I decided I'd not buy computer games this year in an effort to save some of the cash I need..... think I'll have to make an exception ; but I'll wait a few days in case it's as much a disappointment as starcraft 2 was (not a bad game, but just not any better than the first)

What's so epic about that? Diablo's series is going down after Diablo 1, which is my most favorite game and everything about it was epic. And this looks like... some crappy, old FF animation ;)  Blizzard lost their essence long time ago.

LOL @ people comparing DIABLO to mainstream RPG's... Diablo is not an rpg...it's a hack n'slash mouse clicking fury. This has always been what the game is and plays like and why millions of people love it. IF you are disappointed of the gameplay then clearly this game is not for you and it's your mistake for expecting something different.

The old ones were marketed as Action RPG which is exactly what they are.
Same's torchlight and others. They're not just hack 'n slash, and they're definetly not ordinary RPG's like morrowind or might and magic.
But ye, if people expect diablo 3 to be like skyrim it's just not going to end well.

I actually reinstalled D2 on my work PC at home two weeks ago and finally dug out my old saved games folder from 2002 and finished the last bit of the Expansion.

Started playing it again with another character and spent about three days playing again.

Loaded up Silent Hunter 4 this weekend......

I think it's because Blizzard is known for their awesome cinematics in their games. I agree it's nothing to get worked up over, but it's nice to see quality CGI like this.

Not gonna pick it up until I'm done with Kingdoms of Amalur, that is such a FUN game! When it comes to games like this, I'm a monogamous gamer, only 1 game at a time cause i like to be immersed in all the lore. They already did what Skyrim SHOULD have done, add story line to it through DLC. Hats off to you KoA, well played ;)  That being said, from what im reading in comments all over the net, its a similar game play style, which I'm all for. Only gripe I have is i wish i could do online coop with my buddy.

just when i thought i'd have heard the dumbest comments ever made on Toms i find this: people comparing skyrim to diablo3? skyrim is WOW style, there is nothing comparable to diablo3.
what do WOW, StarCraft2 and Diablo3 all have in common: they are made by blizzard "."

if anybody thought i was comparing diablo to skyrim as far as gameplay style, they were sadly mistaken. no joke, they don't directly compare, at least not in a way of say KoA to Skyrim compares. the way they DO compare is that one is actually enjoyable, and the other is a click fest.

exactly what i was about to say. diablo is a click fest hack and slash. i hate it when people compare it to elder scrolls. wtf are they thinking? don't like hack and slash? then don't bother.
