p4 is pentium 4 or prescott nothing to do with any drink that i nkow of nad he meant it's a cpu that runs hot so it would keep you warm.......?

So, anyway

I had a fun night last night

Went to reinstall my os (been buggy the past few months, havent reinstalled for like 2 years!)

went through the whole process, blah blah blah, came time to install drivers, I forgot what network card I have! No internet...ack! So i'm rummaging through my backups cuz I was sure I had a drivers stash hidden in there somewhere and what do I find?

A DRIVE IMAGE! I forgot I did one!

So ya, wasted a bloody hour

One thing I'm concerned about is that while I was skimming through my Bios I noticed my CPU is running pretty damn warm...like 140 f warm... 8O

thankfully I have the old school water radiators...no heat bills! la~!

only downside is that my room is right above the boiler room, sure, the heated floor is nice, but when we get cold snaps like this and everyone cranks their rads, my room turns into a freakin sauna...with the cpu running at that heat I'm getting a little worried!

Throw some water on it.. that'll cool it right off...

Got a fan you can have blow on it or open up the case. One of the guys here.. Pauly? has a picture of a little 13" deskfan sitting inside his computer for max air flow.

Ya I got the side off, might install another case fan onto the side, but I'm thinkin that having the fan on the side with the case closed might be pointless compared to just leaving the side off completely *shrug*

either way I'm gonna have to investigate into it prolly end up buyin a new heatsink, bigger and badder baby ya!

Over the summer the humidity in the air was causing my alarm to go off since it wasn't air cooling efficiently.

I have one of thoe Volcano.. the new one that's like $25-$30. Rated up to an AMD 3400 or something. I have a 3000 and it wasn't able to keep it cool. I had to open the case up. I think my computer had 6 or 7 fans in it right now.

People like you amaze me.. you lack personality and a sense of humor yet you continue to babble random things.

I don't even remember what was talked about in the superbowl thread? Are you feeling guilty or something bringing that back up? I've never held a grudge against anyone, nor do I let things like that bother me.

Then why do you reply to my posts? that's where you aren't sinsere with yourself! you see in some way we are all here for one another...we have things to teach each other in ways not always very clear, but for this to function naturally you have to open up a little and be vulnerable. I hunted down the whole Superbowl thread to read on it.

I called you an idiot then too. I called you an idiot recently. You must be an idiot if I keep stating this. Idiots must be reminded constantly of this.

You apparently hold a grudge against me to some level because you brought up the superbowl thread. I had to go back and read where we had talked to even have a clue.

Now you're psycho-analyzing me because of a previous conversation where I felt your narrow view of the Superbowl made you out to be an idiot?

In almost all cases I leave conversations in each thread. I grew up playing sports. We learned to leave it on the field or leave it in the rink. You apparently didn't grow up playing sports to understand this and what something means.

But I digress. You take offense to me making a silly comment and you not being able to intrepret it? I stated previously you needed to get thicker skin. Now I believe it you need a whole lot more; ground up reworking or something.

Yeah my computer is loud.. It's close to 47dB I think? The CPU heatsink is rated up to 50dB

So I had some extra red glowing fans I tossed in there.. it's neat. I have one of those thermaltek fan controllers and temp gauges. A twist takes it from 5500 rpm down to 2500rpm I think?

Doesn't bother me though.. if I'm gaming I have headphones on.. or I might have the radio on. It's background noise to me.. which is also why I turn it off at night.

I have a 24 port switch and a 1500w UPS sitting there humming away all night though.

I never really understood why people leave them on all night for no reason. Maybe I have some fear of something happening with it, like a fire or overheating or something.
I've always kept the habit of turning it off when I'm done with it. I might turn it off 2-3 times after work if I don't use it for an hour or two. It takes like 30 seconds to boot up, no big deal to me.

Plus it glows a lot and it's in my bedroom.. it makes a lot of light so I'd prefer to keep it off.

might be a rumor but I hear a comp is the same as a car, use more gas turning it on than just letting it run and idle for 15 mins kinda thing, either a rumor or a good excuse

I've also blown up a computer (literally...bits and pieces flew and fire, and smoke OH MY!) when I turned on my comp one day (this goes back to the good ol' dont smoke in front of the comp thing) so I'm kind of timid

I also used to dl a ton of stuff before while I slept...got in the habit of leaving it on, then ya, it became a white noise to me, must have it or I can't sleep at all

Yeah I can see leaving it on for downloading and stuff.

Letting it run is good because it keeps a constant temp, doesn't cool off/heat up, the hard drives keep spinning and don't collect as much.. though they still have a MTBF.. stopping and starting isn't all that great for them but it doesn't matter anymore. Not sure if the new HDs drop the heads down they power off/reset which causes minor damage.

I'm sure it's still a 50/50 keeping it on/turning it off though. No real benefit either way.
