I bought the 8kta3 (without the optional raid) cuz I heard some good
things about its overclocking ability when it was new. I got a Duron
750 which was all I could afford with it at the time.

Recently I was messing with it and seeing if i couldnt get it to over
clock since my first attempts failed and overclocking my pentium200mmx
was Sooooo easy for a novice like me to accomplish on the first time i
didnt think i should be having this much trouble. Anyway I think i
might have broke the die, it doesnt seem visible but i havent looked
at it real hard wit a magnifying glass but that HUGE heatsink and the
fan and the metal clip was just a bitch and I did also use a very thin
layer of arctic silverfox2 thermal grease or whatever its called. Well
the board wasnt working when the cpu fan wasnt pluged into the
mainboards supplied power source, i figured that was my problem and it
was running FINE even without the heatsink/fan and went through
postcodes all the way to FF. But I didnt want to leave it like that so
i was content with giving up on Overclocking and just putting the
heatsink/fan/grease back on and leave well enough alone. But then once
I finally got it strapped on it reads FF the first second and forever
thereafter once the system is on. So I took the Cpu/fan etc out and
turned the system on with NOTHING in the Socket A and I get the same
result FF. So Im assuming the motherboard IS Fully Functional but the
Duron is probably worthless and not even worth saving for any parts.

NOW I want to buy the fastest CPU for this board and overclock it
without breaking the dye or anything else. Im using kinggmax pc150,
yes pc150. it has worked and its all I have is one 256mb pc150. The
Manual for the motherboard says it can only support up to a athlon1.2
and i need to know specifically from someone who knows or who can
direct me to a website that covers everything about the epox 8kta3 and
overclocking as i doubt very much the epox site will say much about
overclocking. Im a little worried and maybe should just get a duron900
but with prices so close together it doesnt make sense. Also i checked
pricewatch and i didnt see any listings for athlons socketA
(thunderbird?, all the new sockets and hardware has me confused)

Im competent with a soldering iron and irealize the circuits that
people are using the ir #2 pencils on are indeed small and I have no
problem with connecting such small circuits, Im just a little confused
as to what cpu to buy, what dealears are carrrying it, what
modifications to the cpu are needed and finally how to set this 8kta3
board up as far as jumpers (the few it does has like the 100/133 and
also the bios settings; voltage etc; maybe someone even would take the
time to help me tweak my hardware including my agp card etc. It would
be appreciated. I feel duped by toms site for releasing partial info
and saying it is a good board for o/c'ing and then when i get it home
i cant get it to do anything and epox, itrs a good board, but maybe a
lack of tech info released at the same time as the product made this
one give so many so many probs. If I cant get help. Im buying the
fastest cpuit will take and (regretfully selling it on ebay). Thanks
for any help in advance. poste here or email me smtp553xyz@yahoo.com

Im aware he has updated some info regarding the L1 through L7, etc.
Any other sites that detail in FULL how to setup the
cpu, bios, jumpers, memory, etc for an 8kta3 and an athlon 1.3ghz or is
there a preferable combination someone could suggest including
heatsink and fan because I THINK i broke a dye already and I cant have
that happen again. Many thanks, please answer soon.....

That was the demise of the CPU die! These modern CPUs don't tolerate
running without a heatsink.

Get yourself the best CPU it will take and it should be OK. It'll need a
decent 300watt PSU to make sure it doesn't stall during the boot process.
(The fast CPUs take much more current than the earlier ones.)
