Can anybody help.
Install of XP2 appears to have caused a conflick somewhere with writing
CD-RW and CD-R disks

Hardware AMD Athlon 1.41 GHz
Motherboard ASUS A7A266 ALiMaGiK 1 Chipset

CD Rewriter Teac CD-516EB
Firmware version 1.0J (Updated during problem)
was originally 1.0A

OS Win Xp-SP2

Software:
InCD 4 v4.3.0.5 (Updated during problem) was originally 4.?.?
Nero V5.5.10.56 (Updated during problem) was originally 5.5.10.??

General problem
Existing CD-R and CD-RW disks are not recognised on the CD drive.
Manufacturer Software CD's are not recognised on CD drive
Windows own feature to write CD appears to burn but disk is not recognised
when attempting to read from it.
InCD format runs to 100% and more,35-40 mins, then all I/O on system appears
to hang while
format attempts to read from the disk. When read light goes out I/O then
responds until
another attempt is made by format to read the disk.
NERO appears to write disk ok but cannot read it back on cd drive or DVD drive

Symptoms:
1. InCD
Place blank CD-RW 4X CD in drive. InCD see's it and launches the Format
window.
Set a format running and it appears to proceed normally, the slidebar
progresses
from 0% to 100% and the format continues to run and run and run. Soon
after this the
read light on the CD stays on for approx 30 second intervals during which
time all
other types of I/O appear to be blocked. Programs wont launch, running
windows wont
respond to a click, internet i/O appears to go via a dialup link in outer
mongolia.
Error messages start to appear in the System event log every few seconds
Event log errors:
Source: atapi
Category: None
Type: Error
EventID: 9
The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort1, did not respond within the timeout
period.

2. Reading existing CD's
Place existing CD in the drive ( ones that I could read before XP SP2 ).
Again the read light
will stay on for 15-20 second periods and I get a "cant read the disk"
message from explorer
and error messages appear in the event log.
Event log Error:
Source: Cdrom
Category: None
Type: Error
EventID: 7
The device, \Device\CdRom0, has a bad block.

The CD reads fine in the DVD-ROM on the same system

3. Nero
Burn a CD in any format (attempting to build a data CD, copy files to CD
as backup)
This again appears to write the CD. It takes about the correct time for
the data volume
being copied. It says its writing the lead-in/lead-out and finishes OK.
When you attempt to read the CD back, the same errors appear in the event
log as in point 2.

Attempted solutions:
Upgrade TEAC firmware to 1.0J (no change)
Disable IMAPI (no change) just get DCOM errors in the log when XP tries to
start it up.
Install Adaptec ASPI drivers V4.60 and V4.71.2 (no change)
Uninstall Nero and InCD then re-install NERO and InCD (no change)
Copy the NERO WMASPI32.DLL into the system32 directory (no change)
Try to read newly created CD in the DVD-ROM just get the error about
corrupted data from OS.
Attempt to discover if TEAC drive is no longer compatible with XP SP2 (cant
find out either way)
Turn off windows Recording for the CD drive, its still off.

Update the chipset (motherboard) drivers. This controls IDE devices
including the burner in question. Also try the suggestions here if that
doesn't help:
