I have a 8RDA+ and I had a 2200+ XP overclocked to 2600+ (190Mhz X 11). I
bought a 2800+ Barton (512K cache), put it in with new thermal compound,
booted, loaded optimized defaults, and it went to 12.5 X 166.

As soon as I go into Advanced Features and even LOWER the multiplier to 12,
and save and exit, it defaults down to something like 1250 Mhz and says
Warning. CPU changed or overclock failure.

I can set all my previous optimized BIOS settings (see below), and even set
it to Expert and set the multiplier to 12.5 and the FSB to 166, save and
exit, and it boots fine. But, as soon as I lower or change the multiplier
or the FSB, it reboots and says overclock warning. How do I get past this?

I read that the 2800+ Barton already is unlocked for changing the
multiplier, not needing any pencil tricks or whatnot. Is this true?

What else can I try? I tried the CPU voltage at default and at 1.825V, how
I had it before, no go. How do I solve this?

Thanks!

Sorry, I did some more looking after ny post. This time, instead of trying
the multiplier, I started upping the FSB from 166. It worked. :)

I'm now at 180 X 12.5 = 2.25 Ghz. I just started here to see if XP would
boot, and it seems stable so far. Haven't run any 3dmark or memtest burns,
but it's running, faster than the 2200+ chip. :)

I'm also running at 1.825Vcore and 2.77Dimm. Is that the best setting?

Next, I'll see how high the FSB can go....

The best voltage setting is always the lowest stable one (least heat
produced) at the given speed. Individual testing needed - try to lower
voltage until unstable and then add a litte voltage until stable again.

8rdavcore is handy: http://www.hasw.net/
