Missing CD-Rom and DVD Drives

About a month ago I started to expeirence my cd and dvd drives disappearing
and then reappearing after i leave my computer off for a while. I've checked
and rechecked the connections and they are all tight. When they've
disappeared I've looked for them in the device manager and they don't show up
there. I've looked and read a million things but nothing seems to tell me
what's going on.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to potentially fix it? It's
becoming very annoying.
