I have external HP CD-Writer 8230e, which was working fine with Win XP -SP1.
But after installing SP2, the CD-Writer does not work. The CD Writer Drive
letter is shown under "my computer", but it does not read any CD and rather
PC hangs.

I have dual OS (Win XP & Win 98) and the CD-Writer works fine with WIn98
under same environment.

Can anyone help.

Thanks

Ajay

Hi,

Disconnect any USB devices from the PC including USB Mice and Keyboard, if
any.
Boot in safe mode and login as administrator.
Go to device manager, double click Universal serial Bus Controllers, right
click on the XXX PCI to USB Open Host controllers and then select uninstall.
If you have USB 2.0, uninstall the XXX PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controllers
as well.

Reboot to normal, windows XP should found new hardwares and install the
drivers.
Go to device manager to check and ensure the USB controllers are installed
and is working properly.
Re-connect the USB devices each at one time. Ensure it works properly before
connecting the other USB devices.

Hope it helps.

Peter

If that doesn't work, try updating the chipset (motherboard) drivers and
check out this site:
