Wrong product key??

I had to reinstall all the programs on my computer. Now that I have done
that, I can't use word without my product key. Dell puts the product key on
the computer itself. Great, i always know where it is. The problem is the
product key that worked the first time, doesn't work now and won't let me use
word. I've typed it everyway possible and it still won't work. What do I do?

Thanks

The WORD and other application CD have their PK on a sticker
on the envelope that the CD is shipped in. The COA/PK on
the case is only for Windows OS. Dell keeps pretty good
records, call them on the phone and tell them the service
tag numbers (also on the case) and they can give you the PK
for WORD, WORKS, whatever you bought from them.

You're simply using the wrong key.

Dell puts the XP product key, not the *Word* or *office* product key on the
computer case. The key you want should be with the disk packaging, on the
jewel case, if it has one.

If you download and run Belarc Advisor you will get a full inventory of your
Hardware and Software.

Every item by model / type / serial number.
Every application with a serial number / Product Key

It will give the the keys for everything, including XP and Office: these are
the ones that you used to install the software and should work again.

That will only work if the program is already installed.
The OP is reinstalling the programs so Belarc is no help.

JJ

If the guy did a full reformat of his PC and performed the 'reinstall'
clean, then he would need to have a Product Key to begin the installation of
Office / Word.

His post suggests that Office / Word requires the Key in order that word
will function [open], to me it also indicates that the software is installed
over the existing version and now reqires a key to reactivate.

If that's the case, wouldn't registry have an entry for the 'old' key and
this would be accessible via Belarc?

I wouldn't complicate things by trying to get into the registry. On Dell
PC's, the OS doesn't require any keys as long as you use the DELL OS cd. So
the key he needs is the MS Office (or works) key, which is on a sticker on
the CD jackets. If you can't find the key, call DELL.
