Lately i have noticed some anger on the boards....
We all have ideas about what this place is, or was, or should be.
Lets not forget..... what people had to do to get this. People wanted to see flame wars, people wanted rivals to duke it out. They wanted a place to let loose the dogs of war and relax.
I know i wasn't around for this, hell i was just graduating from HS. But reading about how much they wanted a section where everyone could come together to flame and taunt eachother is kind of heartwarming.
Its like all things, we have glorified something and made it to be something more important then it is to suit our own desires....
Let me hear your thoughts on this old thread, or what the board means to you and what you want it to be.

Hey there, Picxx. Mate, I dont find myself in agreeance with that particular statement as this forum means the same to me today as it did when I first joined; however, it was interesting to read those early posts for an 'other' section being requested. Nice link-up.
I didn't mean we all have done anything personally to change it.....just how our needs today are different then the needs back then.
I thought it the gore/bush thing was pretty funny....they're talking about something nuetral and end up poking fun at politics along the way.
I was just loafing around some of the super old posts in different sections one day and i stumbled across them begging for it. The only people i know are wuzy and Crash.
I have read a lot of old posts and some of them seem pretty funny now days.
THANK YOU LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, Thats BigMac.....be sure to check out the 930 show, its completely different then th 730 show. Be sure to tip your waitresses and try the pot roast.
No but seriously, what do you think about this older thread?? I guess i am in the minoriety where i found it interesting. I couldn't imagine this place without an other section....lol
They wre talking about building up your post count through BS'ing and not computer talk.....just funny things like that.

Since when am I supposed to post seriously here? The last time I did that someone accused me of being too serious. What I think about that topic? I think if that's what they wanted they should not have called it the other but called it "the A-ren-A. That could still be done. "Other" is just too ambiguous for anything else, which also is its charm as now and then someone wanders in here with something on his/her mind, who is subsequently sucked into this other community to stay.

is that a bad thing?
No, it's a good thing. That's why the topic that pickxx linked to isn't that applicable (anymore) as to what the other's become. He asked for a serious reaction, don't blame me for that.

I think so too, i dont think to original idea of the other is still around, i think the natrual progression of things has come through. I thought of this place like "Quite Large" Mac..... a community that draws people in with venonm.
Not super deadly, just something irritating and maybe an infection of sorts that settles in like a flesh eating bacteria.
I know you are trying to insult me and all, but at least you could have gotten the geography right... check out my location, dude. There's really nothing american about me. Well, that's a lie, sort of, but you get the general idea.
And btw, you're not a persian anymore, you're an american melting pot product. If that's insulting, so much the better but I doubt it
If you really are into searching old records, search out the locked threads, compare what it took for a thread to actually get locked, usually 4 or 5 PMs from concerned individuals to Fredi, and if Fredi thought it was getting way out of hand he'd lock it, and that thread would pass on into history, feelings and anger would subside and everything would get back to as normal as the Other Section is.
Compare your findings back when to what will get a thread locked today!
We've gone from basically no moderation, to over moderation and thats what some are upset about, if you weren't here in the past years you don't even know what they are talking about, because you do not have references to refer back to.
Do we need a moderator? Yes
Do we need a host of moderators? No
This place was always about the freedom to express yourself openly and theres been some serious issues covered here, that today would not be allowed to get anywhere near those levels of intensity, and thats where my concerns come into play.
Some of the latest locked threads are good examples of what I'm talking about, the issue between SoD and Robs emblem, in the past those 2 would have slugged it out until the end, and both left with believing the same thing they started with, but they got the chance to express themselves!
Whether you agree with SoDs opinion or not he still had the right to express it, and in the past that thread didn't even come near qualifying to be locked, but just the same it got locked!
This forum was always about freedom of speach!
We've got a lot of great people here and we used to be able to joke, kidd, and slam the hell out of each other, without someone else taking offence to it and editing or deleting or locking the thread, theres been a lot of things in the past I've done here just to stir the pot and start trouble, and sit back and laugh my ass off at the results, but then Wingy and RobD got wise to that and shut me down, but what the heck it was fun while it lasted.
Personally I think dhlucke is a great moderator even though I said he wouldn't be, but in the past he would just slap me and walk off, and wondered if I had meant what I had said or not, not everything said here is cut in stone, I may joke around in this section sometimes to blow off steam, but in the Help Sections I'm all business!
My concerns are the limitations being applied today are just too much, every statement doesn't have to be scrutinized and evaluated as being offensive, some things are actually jokes, let the moderators moderate but stay out of things unless they're requested to look into an issue thats possibly getting out of hand, not editing or moderating as to their own personal opinion of whats offensive to them, that may not be offensive to you or me at all.
Jake why are our post counts not increasing as we post? I've noticed this for awhile now and I see its also happening to your count, and Scammys but not Picks, what the heck is going on?
I have no clue. I don't notice post counts, but I'd suggest that you post this question to Steve in the "Bugs" forum. It's got to be the software. I have no control over the software here.
Note: Unlike the old forum software where you could see an increase with each post - with this new software, all posts (even old ones) reflect the latest post count. So while it seems to stay constant, it's actually increasing.
Nevermind Jake! It was a stupid question I discovered the answer to and tried to delete the post before you got it, but you must be right on top of things as usual!
