I have a new GA-8knxp motherboard with the newest bios installed. I can get
all my hard drives to boot from ide-1 thru ide4 but my SATA harddrive will
not boot. it starts up then causes the computer to restart. I can see the
hard drive on boot up and also from the other hard drives. I tried to
reinstall XP on the SATA hard drive but when I get to putting in the drives
during the xp install I get errors or when I get lucky and it makes it to
where I can install windows it tells me that there is NO hard drive to
install. Any one got and idea?

If I remember correctly, you need to install the SATA disk drivers during
the Windows installation sequence. (F6? to install 3rd party disk driver???)

It's normal to stick the driver on a floppy disk, I think you can get this
disk image from the Gigabyte site - I got mine from the Intel site.

Setting up the RAID options (but not enable a RAID pair) in the BIOS for
SATA seemed to help on earlier BIOSes (F4?)

All from six month old memory, now fading fast.

Copy Sata drivers from disk to floppy and when asked to press F6 do
so, Install sata drivers and away you go.

Instructions and drivers if they're on the Intel SATA ports of the GA-8KNXP:

Instructions and drivers if they're on the Silicon Image SATA ports of the
GA-8KNXP:

Hope this helps,

You didnt tell us what SATA mode you prefer. Base or Raid. Copy the
proper drivers to the floppy. In my opinion use Raid mode and Silicon
Image Raid Drivers 1.0.33. That is if the harddisk is connected to
Silicon Image SATA controller.
If the Sata harddisk is connected to the Intel Sata controller(ICH5R)
then you should copy to the floppy the proper intel drivers(link
http).
