install shield issue cause error-1720

how can i go about fixing this issue?
when i boot up it tells me this error 1720 before windows starts.
western digital is telling me it is a windows installshield script issue

any help will be appreciated.

my system is:
xp home,350 mhz pentium. 2, 80gb

Try this temorarily, GO into the BIOS and DISABLE the SMART feature of
the drive. IF the error goes away then the problem is the drive. Since
the error is BEFORE Windows starts loading and WD doesn't want to mess
with the drive, they are telling you about a Windows error that just
happens to have the same number.

I'm some what a novice with computers can you tell me how to go about
disabling the smart feature?

SMART is enabled/disabled in the BIOS menu. Reboot the computer during the
first POST screen there should be a message stating which key to press in
order to enter BIOS. Usually this is DEL but not always. Check your
motherboard manual it will give detailed instructions and tell you where to
find and disable SMART.

If you don't have the manual you can find it by visiting the motherboards
website. If your completely lost about what brand and model number the
motherboard post a follow-up in this thread. Or do a search in this
newsgroup as it has been answered many times before.
