For the last 3 weeks I have been try to get this board to work. Here
are the specs.AMd 3000+ Barton.1gig Muskin ddr400-3200(2x512)slots
1&3.Radeon 9600xt 126mb. 80 gig western digital harddrive.Sony
cd-rom.Enermax 485watt power supply.Win xp,service pack 2,all nforce
drivers updated and bios flashed to JK.
I was given this board 3 weeks ago and told it worked perfectly.I also
removed heatsink and fan and replaced with bigger ones and also used
artic silver.I have reformated and reinstalled way too many times.
Ok. Here is the problem.I have the screensaver set to blank.Power to
...turn off monitor after 20 minuetts, standby -never,turn off
harddisk-never and hibernate-never.When I am running a program or
downloading from the net and the monitor shuts down the computer
freezes up.If I move the mouse or hit keys on the keyboard it does not
bring the computer or screen back up.Sometime there is no activity
light blinking and other times the activity light is froozen
also.Everything is running...as fans but no activity. All I can do is
reboot. There are no errors in the event viewer as when the computer
freezes I guess it can not write to it.I have run 3d mark and it flys
without a hitch.I can play unreal tournement with no problems and all
settings on high and no artifacts and it runs smooth as silk. This only
happens when the computer shuts the monitor down.I have run memtest
and memory passed with flying colors.Everthing on the board seems to
function perfect until xp turns off the monitor to save power. In the
bios I have set the resume from power from s1 to s3 and back again and
still the same.I am not using a usb mouse or keyboard .It is not a
heat issue as it is running cool.Sandra, motherboard monitor and
speedfan all report everything normal except my +5 which all say is
4.09 to 4.30. But Easytune5 reports the +5 as 5.12 and in the bios all
voltages say ok as there are no actual readings.Heatsink ,fan,
memory, power supply and video card are all new.Thought maybe it was
the graphics card and returned it for new one with same results. My fsb
is set to 166 and clock switch at 12.5.Memory is set to 100% and reads
7-3-3-2.5 which is correct.
I have a new board and in a couple weeks this one is being put on a
shelf as I am upgrading to a Asus A8V Deluxe which I already have new
in the box waiting on a 64 bit processor.I just can not figuer out
what is up with this board. My brother who rebuilt his system gave me
this board and swears it was working perfectly and only thing he did
to it was clean it.I feel he may of damaged it somehow during cleaning
as he said it was very dirty but when he gave it to me it looked new .
Any Ideas here ?As I said ...computer only locks up when computer
turns off the monitor.Sometimes it will lock up within 30 minuetts or
if left on over night it will be locked up and I have to reboot. Thanks
in advanced.

Does the problem occur:

a) with PowerOff Monitor = Never? and/or

b) with NO ScreenSaver Defined?

Update all the MS programs you have running and get the latest video
drivers for the video card. Also make sure you have the MB drivers
properly installed and updated. See how that goes. It could be the
monitor giving you the run around or the video card (Borrow the video
card your brother used with it. Incompatibilities with hardware do still
occur and glitches like this are pain to track down. Get the software
right first though.
