My epson c82 stopped printing several colors, had bad banding,
was only printing the bottom half of fonts in black, then fully
stopped printing. Or I should say 'pretend print mode' (Epson: you can
do much better than this. My MX-100 is still
running fine since 1983! I am very disappointed)

Anyway I just fixed it, here's how:

Open the printer: 2 screws on the inside and 2 tabs underneath, and 2
on the inside.
IIRC there are some other tabs that like to stick. It was a pain in
the ass
to open but my apporach was a bad choice (break the tabs, jack open
with 2
screwdrivers, rinse repeat, curse, then notice 2 screws. curse more.)

turn on printer and let it chew, hit the ink button and after the
carts slide
left push the cartrige block left out of the way.

Check the hose on the lower right to make sure it is connected- this
one
was loose.
Then there is also a hose connector underneath the docking area of the
cartrige.
to get at it you must slide the sponge dock to the right. It has 2
white posts
on it and to keep it out of the way I slid a straw over one post. This
hose was
completely disconnected! Its also really fun to try to reconnect! 2
pairs
of locking hemostats are very handy but any long tweezers should do.
I really
feel like i should have put some loc tite or similar on the hose
junction since
it is a moving part.

to clean the printer i used Simple Green concentrate spray (bathroom
kitchen cleaner and relativly mild) This might turn out to be a
mistake and clog the heads but it did turn the ink to solution nicely.
I'll update later and let the ng know.

soaked a clean fine cut cloth in simple green and pushed the print
head over it
and let it soak for 1/2 hr. added simple green to a swab and cleaned
the
retractible wiper, shot some into the ink suction area and cleaned out
overspray.
power cycled several times and then printed a cmyk target with it.

it works and looks good. not great but good. I'm low on ink on 1 cart
so it won't let me clean
the heads. (stop doing things like that epson!)

hope this helps others.
