XP Services Refuse to Start

We have multiple workstations (Windows XP Pro SP1, AD native mode) that seem
to make up their own mind as to whether or not they are going to start
services that are set to start automatically. When the workstation decides
to act up we'll find about 95% of the services set to start automatically
simply didn't start. As you may suspect, when "computer browser", "dhcp
client", etc. don't start it makes using the workstation a little difficult.

We have searched for clues to this behaviour but have found nothing.
There's nothing noted in event viewer or any logs we can find when this
happens.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Certain services will stop themselves if there is no work left to do.
This problem seems a bit more excessive than just that though. I would
check for malware/viruses that may be preventing these services from
starting or may be killing the servicse when they start.

Another possibility is that a service the rest of the services depend on
(like RPC for example, but surely not the case here) is not starting or
is not working properly.

You can always try to repair the installation which is what I would look
at doing if this were happening to me and I knew the systems were clean
and untampered with.

Thanks Nathan, but we've been all around on this one. For some reason a
workstation will simply decide it doesn't feel like starting it's services
when you boot it up. My own workstation has even done it a couple times. We
are lost as nothing is logged in event viewer or anywhere else we can find.
I finally through a couple of "net start" commands in the login script today
for computer browser and dhcp client, I'll see if that helps at all.
