When you re-install XP, does it also re-format your harddrive? I know it
deletes everything, but does it actually re-format the harddrive?

when you re-install xp it gives you options what you want to do.
to completely reformat the partition on which xp needs to be installed
or continue using the same partition where xp is installed or repair
and exisiting installation
