I'm having difficulties with all components of my computer from BIOS all the
way to Catalyst 4.5 drivers for the card itself. What is the combination
for BIOS, AGP setting, Graphics Drivers, and any other misc settings? My
computer crashes every ten minutes of game play and I can't figure it out.
Here's my specs....
Athlon XP 3000+
512 MB PC3200
250 GB Harddrive
BIOS version F4
Catalyst 4.1 drivers
all other drivers for main board are very first versions, no updates.

First off, the Ga-7vax needs BIOS F10 to support the 333 FSB and the
Gigabyte site doesn't list PC3200 as supported. I have the same board
running F10 with a XP2500 Barton, 1G PC2700, and a 9800 Pro w/ Cat 4.4 and
it runs very well, no issues since installing Win2K Pro and latest chipset
drivers. Install the correct BIOS >Chipset drivers>remove current video
drivers completely>install new Cats.
In the BIOS, once you have F10 you should be able to select the AGP rate,
2x-4x,8x, and AGP aperture which is how much system memory to use with the
video memory, generally you want this low, either 64 or 128 MB.

I suspect it is a heat problem or a power problem. Check temperatures,
and what is the Power of your Power Supply Unit?
If your system works fine with another agp graphic card then it is
either the graphic card(overheating, mulfunctioning, incompatibility
with the mobo)or a power issue(not enough power to the graphic card).
I have a 7VAXP ultra and a sapphire Radeon 9700 and no problem at all.
My PSU is HEC 525watt.
Try these:
1) Turn AGP fastwrite off. Put AGP aperture size to 128. Put main
memory CAS latency to 2.5. Force AGP to 4x.
2) Get a bigger PSU(costs some money unfortunately. Recommended Antec
480.)
3) Be sure to have the latest Via hyperion drivers. Prior to (1) above
remove graphic drivers, reboot, change settings in bios, enter
windows, install latest via drivers, reboot and install ati drivers.

I have a 9700 Pro which runs fine at 4x AGP, but is unstable at 8x AGP.
There is no performance difference between the two. Try using a third party
tool (I use RivaTuner) to force 4x AGP and see if that helps.

Oh yeah, I am running a VAXP mobo with the 9700 Pro, 512 PC2100 Crucial RAM
(GB mobos are picky about RAM too, you may have compatibilty issues) and a
AXP 2100+
