IDE or SATA

I currently have a 40GB IDE Hard drive that I will use on my Gigabyte
GA-7N400 Pro

In about 5 hours I intend to purchase another hard drive (probably a 120GB).
I still intend to keep the 40GB IDE hard drive on the system. I do not
propose to do anything fancy with the second HDD just basically have my
downloaded stuff on there (mp3's etc)
My question is should I purchase another IDE HDD or a SATA?
I am not at all familiar with SATA.
Will it work ok with an IDE HDD
Any advice would be gratefully received

Since the performance will be about the same between a good PATA drive and a
good SATA drive, the decision is:
Do I wand to leave a EIDE slot available for expansion?
and/or
Do I want to experience installing a SATA drive.

Either will have to be installed (formatted etc.).

5 hours huh...???
SATA is for sure on the way in.... and the PATA(parallel - EIDE) is slowly
on the way out.
Your mobo supports both.... With win XP the SATA drivers have to be
installed durning the win boot up
process when you install the OS, (have your drivers ready) or the ata
serial ports will not be recognized. Both should work okay together.
As of yet I don't think there's alot of (noticable???) gain between the new
pata and sata hard drives considering other hardware in the computer. SATA
is supposed to be faster... but you want notice it. I'll wait awhile
before I switch to SATA.
Get that processor up graded...lol

There are already new mobos out that have only SATA. SATA is In and PATA is
going out.
If you think the drive will outlive your motherboard, then get SATA.

Contrary to some peoples thoughts, there are already SATA optical drive out
(OK I have only heard of one... and don't wish to be seen to exagerate), but
that will change quickly while there will be PATA drives available for quite
a while yet (can you still get ISA cards?). You may need to get PATA to SATA
converters for the next motherboard in a year or two (it won't take that
long) if you don't start with SATA some time soon.
