Pretend: Money is no object. You have to place the order in the morning - no waiting until the next big thing comes along. Right now: configure your dream computer - what components? Include everything - CPU, motherboard, heatsink, fan, case, case fan, memory, etc., etc. What will you use it for? Estimated cost? PC systems only. The idea is to see what everyone thinks are the best components for a custom system. I think this should be a monthly or every other month poll. Thanks! Jim S.
Right now, if money wasn't an issue, I'd get a retail socket 478 Pentium 4 2GHz, 512MB PC800 RDRAM (2*256), a SCSI raid with 2 15000RPM Hard drives. A Lian-Li PC-68 would be nice. For the motherboard, I'd get an Abit TH7II. I like having a TV tuner in my computer, so for now I'd get a GeForce3 card, probably the Hercules Prophet 3, and an ATI TV WONDER and a ATI DV WONDER for digital editing. That's about it, I guess.

I'll beat your Cray w/ 512 Newest SGI computers hooked up side by side, 30compsci dudes, and 20EE nerds. And of course teh monitor would be a 15" LCD (I happen to like small momitors).
When I rule the world, Apple will only mean the fruit.
Oh, I just noticed that I forgot a lot of things! For sound, I'd have the Hercules Game Theater XP (it's more feature rich than the Live Platinum 5.1). I'd add a 16X Pioneer Slot DVD Drive. I'd have a fast 2X DVD-RAM Drive (that can also burn CDs) too. I'd have both an Ethernet card and a wireless network card. I would include the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 THX speakers. I'd have the Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro, and the Microsoft Trackball Optical (I like trackballs). I would add an 18" NEC LCD monitor. Well, I think now I have a complete system (excluding printer).
