I've searched the archives and only found one possible solution for
this(turn off auto dialling) but that didn't work.

xp home, sp2, ie6

dials up and connects fine but first page (or newsgroup, or mail with or
without different software) takes about a minute to appear, all pages etc
after that are fine, really annoying.

Any help greatly appreciated (except format c:, re-install :-))

thanks

for future reference I think I've found it

turned out to be related to my Hosts file, see

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

the section related to large Hosts files slowing the machine
