snowball,

Router's that have modems (or that you'd hook a modem up to) are typically
much more expensive than standard small office/home office broadbrand
routers. Also, If you are using dial-up, would I be right in guessing that
you aren't connected all the time? If not - i'd say this: yes, you'd
probably be more secure... but you probably are very secure as it is... You
probably have a dynamic IP address that changes every time you're online and
you probably don't host anything anybody would want anyway. So i'd just use
the built-in firewall w/ XP (specifically SP2) and be satisfied. That's
just my .2$

Best Regards,

I use an SMC7004ABR wired only router. It has a serial port that I
have connected to an external modem. I have two computers connected to
the router and the dial-up works just fine. And it gives me a hardware
"firewall" that hides the computers on the network. But routers with
dial-up modem capability are few and far between. Check with SMC, they
may have current models with serial ports for connecting a modem. My
model was not expensive compared to other routers without the serial port.

Good luck, jimbo
