What was your worst injury?

I found out that my ex was cheating on me, so I got really shitfaced and punched a car window. Apparently in real life they are much more durable than in the movies. I had to have titanium pins installed on two of the bones in my hand.

I don't know if it was my worst, but definitely my stupidest. No girl is worth that. But unfortunately my good friend Jack was thinking for me that night.

My worst? Same thing you did. But I was 6 at the time, and my problem didn't show up until I grew some more. I landed on my nose and face, and screwed up my jaw.

12 years later, after 2 years of braces, 2 or 3 out-patient procedures to prepare (upper mandibular split), I had major facial and jaw reconstruction surgery (and another 4 yrs of braces after that). Was under the knife for 12+ hrs and was wired shut for 12 weeks. I have wires permanently embedded in my jaw holding it together. Fun seeing a new dentist... :P

ow...mine arnt as bad, dont think ive got a worst injury most of mine are broken bones, broken my collar bone twice, and broke my right leg.

first collar bone i was about 4 i fell off the sofa while having a fight or something like that and broke it, the second time was in first school plying that pile up game thing. broken leg was from my old mountain bike.

and varius other small things like splitting my head open on a fireplace and a few others cant really think of the worst...

Reply to Flakes

Errr...

Mine was probably when I fell on my wrist/lower arm (fell on the curb at the edge of th road). Since I was young my bone was more flexable (I swear I felt the bone flex when I hit the curb) and s I got a 'greenstick' fracture (Like when you try snap a green stick from a tree but it stays in one piece).

After I fell I got back up, played football with friends for a few hours, was hurting all the time, by the time I got home my wrist had swollen up pretty badly. Still I just shrugged it off for about 3 days until whislt playing Football in P.E at school I got fouled and fell badly on it again - Man, that was pain! Had a cast put on it after that.

Reply to Ned_Flanders

Wow...those are all pretty bad. I've had some very close calls, but (knock on wood) not had very serious injury.

I fell off a two bunk bed on my head as a kid, but that hurt me less than you might think....

That really explains so much about you.

Dislocated my shoulder while doing a hand stand in kosovo back in '99. (i was drunk and showing off)
After that my shoulder would "subluxate" or dislocate when I did odd things like have sex. Thankfully it was a service connected injury and VA fixed it last year. I'm in the process of claiming VA disability for it now... hoping to get 30% for the rest of my life.

I love the military.

Muahahaha...

Oh, what the hell. . . it's not like there's anything on TV right now. . .

Dislocated jaw when I was 10, a bone fragment went through my ear canal-- lots of blood (hit in the head with a broom handle).

1997: 3 broken ribs, broken scapula, partially torn rotator cuff, shattered tibula (now help in place with a titanium rod and three pins) (bicycle acident during a club ride). Epilogue: I got hit by a car in the same leg exactly 12 months later-- just a really bad sprained knee and a fractured ulna.

Feb. 1994 was delivering New GM cars in Illinois, herniated 2 disc in my neck. Went on to finish my deliveries. Had surgery and died on the table. Now am on SSD due to the fact nothing more can be done. In pain 24 hours a day with high doses of pain Meds. Lucky to not be in a wheel chair at this time.

How about stupidest thing that SHOULD have caused a nasty injury...

We made a jump for our bikes... Two milk crates with a board between them... Board from the sidewalk up to first milk crate. Board from second milk crate to a garbage can (4.5 feet tall or so?)... I went first... Was going too fast, so I tried to jump the whole thing from the first board... Caught my rear wheel on the garbage can and did a face plant to the sidewalk...

That sucked ass, but no injuries...

Snapped my anterior-cruciate ligament in my left knee with the knee-cap itself dislocating and the whole joint seizing up.

Focking thing is useless to me now.

Lost a football career because of it.

Nature's cruel, my friend. Our species is even worse.

The wurst injury I've had was when this Fralein beat me over the head with a German saugage for just suggesting that we might just "get it on" ... those Germans, so sensitive ...

The funny thing is, I now have a strong desire to fire up the BBQ and eat a few sausages.

Chirizo sausage...hmmm....

Dont know how many times we've all heard that one, eh? The world must think we're just a bunch of slack-jawed convicts in a nice looking country. "Come on down to Australia, its a great looking place! The people are stupid, though."

Make sure you pack your boardshorts or "swimming trunks", as they say. You could swim for a lifetime on our beaches. Still clean too, relatively speaking, of course.

I've a 1.5 inch wound at the end of my knob, no wait that's just my japs eye!

Seriously I fractured C3 & C5 8 years ago in an RTA. Never new about it for a few days. Not even a broken neck will keep me out of the battle cruiser! Fractured neck was a stroke of luck, 2-3 more feet and it would have all been over for me. Car went straight through a dry stone wall in Wales and stopped with the front hanging over a big drop down to a river and a railway line. A week before I crashed a Grandfather and his Granddaughter had crashed 85 yards from me and it took 3 or so days to find them. Child lived Grand father dead.

I've actually been fairly lucky with broken bones and suchlike (*touch wood*) despite having plenty of cause to do myself in over the years. My worst accident, well, most spectacular at least, was getting run over by a tractor.

Yes, a tractor.

With a very large trailer on the back filled with hey bails.

I sh1t you not, I was about ten at the time, was jumping up into the cabin, slipped on the lip of the door, and the next thing I remember is being on my back, looking up and seeing the massive back wheel going over my two legs. The only reason they didn't snap was because the ground was gravel and the tyres were filled with water, so between them the ground and the wheels gave way rather than my knees.

The doctors looked at me a bit funny when I strolled in to A&E....

Got run over by a car a couple of years back while riding my bike. Fractured arm, multiple bruising, a thousand and one cuts and a grands worth of mountain bike fubar'd.

Got shot once. Well, nicked really. Bullet came from the right, missed me by millimetres. Sliced through my boot and nicked my skin. Felt like a hot knife had been run across my shin. Nice little scar and a small bald patch too. God knows why.

Reply to RobD

is this the worst injury we can remember?

well, if it isnt, when i was six months i fell off the bed and factured the crown of my skull, was so young they couldnt use stitches, still gotta funny hair line and scar from that one, but i dont remember it.

worst i remember would would be falling off the roof of my friends car, while he was going about 35+mph (dont ask what i was doing upo there  ) it hurt like shit and i was walking funny after that one.

couple other memorable ones are i have been stabbed a couple times(once in the cheek and once in the lowerback.) but they werent bad and i also dislocated my shoulder in a wrestling match. that sucked but it popped right back in.[/shrug]

Also, I've got a nasty scar on my right forearm where I got burnt in an incident years ago. My bdu caught fire and the material welded itself to my arm.

Oh, and my left forearm has an inch long scar underneath where some silly fcuker pulled a knife on me. I got very lucky with that one.

lol that reminds me i got a nice old scar from where i fried my forearm with hot tailpipe from a suzuki samurai, hair still doesnt grow right from that... 8O

Phucky, you and now me all confess to having stab wounds. I, like yourself, got lucky on both times. One a crazy Moroccan whilst in Spain. The other an idiot in a pub in Leeds. When visiting Chester Zoo as a child I was bitten by a crocodile, luckily the thing young and only about a foot long. Still I can say honestly I survived a croc attack.

Reply to Tom_Smart

Weird, isn't it?

How this for perverse. Over 100+ parachute jumps and not a scratch. Where did I sprain my ankle? Climbing out the back of a Bedford truck while on exercise. :?

Reply to RobD

I got crushed in between a bucket loader & a earth mover tire changing it.... I stood there trapped, felt the pressure build in my chest & then listened to my collarbone explode in my chest!!!! Only thing that saved me was the guy on the bucket loader didn't see me, stopped & backed up.... I was shot full of morphine & medi-vacked on the spot!!!!!!

That was the third time I had a knife pulled on me. First time was when I worked in brum and I shoved the guy out the way with my sports bag (that promptly gained a big gaping hole). Second time was while on holiday in Tenerife with a couple of mates (mugger got a broken arm). Third time was a few xmas's ago. Attempted mugging, went to disarm him (and got slashed). One sided fight ensued (me lamping him). Police called, I scarpered. He got on the front page of the local rag, claiming I mugged him. Bastard.

Had to be stopped going to the hospital and finishing him off (I gave him two broken ribs, two dislocated fingers and a broken nose by all accounts). Fcuker.

Reply to RobD

lol atleast he got what was coming to him.

Reply to mrface

I've never had any serious injuries...built like a rock I guess :P Should have died so many times considering how many trees...and buildings I fell off of as a kid

Only thing that actually drew blood for me was when I was on the road with my uncle (trucker) and I jumped out of the cab onto some gravel and wiped out, minor I know, but I pretty much tore all the skin off my leg all at once. Blood everywhere!

Fun part was on the way to the hospital my uncle kept bugging me "Look at all that blood Robin that's SO COOL! OMG ITS PUSSING AWESOME!! Can I touch it?"

bleh

That is the only way to respond to such a cowardly attack. Moroccan guy vanished into the night, guy in Leeds was vanished in an ambulance!

I almost did a similar thing but I was lucky - I was on the trunk of a friends car and he thought I had hopped off, so he stepped on it and turned the car - starting to do a donut. luckily it was an old Dodge Dart that had a lip on the edge of the trunk - and I somehow got 'gecko glue' on my fingertips... I stayed on until he slowed down enough that I could hop off 'safer-ly'

I was 18 when I was put under for my jaw, they had to resussitate (sp?) me twice during the surgery. I don't think I died, but my parents told me it was scary to them.

I don't remember a thing after they blew coke up my nose... to widen the airways so they could insert a breathing tube up one nostril and a stomach tube up the other. (they'd already given me the knockout pills - it just takes a while for me. - and waking up afterwards isn't fun either.)

What was your worst injury?

9 years old I was playing a game of tag with my friends and some girls we had found. I was at the top landing of a slide when one of the girls pushed me when I wasn't looking at her. I fell 10 feet off the slide, landed on my right side, lacerating my liver in half aside from the main vein and the 'skin' of the organ.

5 days in ICU with premmies, emergency surgery staff in the room next to me. They pumped me full of something so I stayed awake 5 days straight, no tv, no radio, no one to talk to - no visitors because I was with premmies. A few died while I was there.

4 days in a regular hospital room laying next to Andrew who had to get skin graphs because he was caught on a truck's trailer hauling lawn mowing equipment and dragged 300 yards down a road.

At day 7 I was allowed to start drinking liquids. I had IVs in each arm, blod drawn 8-10 times per day, and 2 CT scans a day. By day 9 I was able to eat solid food likes Peas and Beans. They wanted to make me fart, it's a sign that your liver is working.

I then spent 3 months laying on a mattress in front of a TV. I spent my entire summer break on a mattress. I spent a short time learning to walk again, right before 6th grade started.

I'm also not supposed to drink because of the extensive damage to my liver. I'm not supposed to play contact sports because my liver sits 2 inches lower and every time my rib cage flex, it hits my liver instead of protecting it.

My parents took my two older brothers to Cedar Point the first 3-4 days because I was expected to die and surgery wouldn't help because it would create more damage by cutting and what not than what they would be repairing. I laid in bed a couple days in with my mom and god mother standing over me, talking about planning my funeral - they thought I was sleeping.

I didn't break or fracture a bone either. They would have had to cut my skin, break my ribs, cut my muscle lining, cut my liver open, stitch the inside up, stitch the liver up, stitch my muslce lining/diaphram? fix my ribs, stitch my skin up.

so the doctors thought you were gonna die, and only because of a game of tag wow that really sucks. and i thought laying in a hospital bedfor 2 days was hell, there was a kid about 16 years old who was afraid to swallow a pill, LOL.

They really didn't have a choice.. They had a staff come in, introduce themselves to me as the team that would be 'working' on me should I fall into a coma or die.

9 dyas in the hospital turned out be to $60,000 in costs.. for some reason, the hospital decided to compensate me for it and not charge a penny. Remind you, this is 1993 or 1994.. before medical expenses were considered excessive.

I had a full team on staff constantly for 3-4 days. They sat and slept in the room next to me..

The odd part is I've since been in worse conditions.. I've had loaded guns pointed at me, knives pulled on me.. and I haven't flinched. I know the feeling of death.. I remember laying on my bed while the paramedics arrived that day.. I wanted to sleep so bad but something told me to stay awake.. and I did. Had I gone to sleep they said I would have gone into a coma.
I don't fear dying anymore.. it's not painful except for a few situations to consider. I live my life today without regret.. very few people can do that. If I died today, I wouldn't complain. I've done everything I could have hoped to have done given my circumstances.

When asked what my regrets are in life.. I have no answer. I regret nothing.. it's made me, for better or for worse.. yet I stand today as a person who most often people look up to... either with my insane ability to drink non-stop or the fact that when faced with something crazy, like death, I don't faulter. I've been so close to death so many times already.. how often does one have a knife pulled on them? A loaded gun?

I've been stabbed in the leg before.. I've had people shoot at me before.. I've faced things most people wouldn't think of facing..

My flaw is that I don't show emotion these days.. I laugh. I don't get depressed, I don't get down.. I don't wish for something better.. yet I don't always show my excitement or happiness.. because I know it can all end so quickly.. I've faced it. Crazy stuff.. yet I'm here still, somehow.
