how would you boot up straight to a particular game and bypass Arcadeos(or
any frontend)? does it even need a frontend? if not, i would love to know
how to do both of these options!

TIA

All you really need is to understand how to operate MAME via the original
command-line interface, along with all the options or switches. Once you've
figured out that single, long line that launches your one desired game with
all display parameters, AFAIK the next thing you do is stick that line in
your Autoexec.bat.

At the end of your autoexec.bat file which will be in the root of your
C drive will be something like

cd\arcadeos
arcadeos

comment that out and replace with

cd\mame
mame pacman

When you hit escape to exit your game, you'll drop straight back to a
DOS prompt.
