I've seen two different versions of this board. One has a fan on the
Nvidia chip and the other has a larger heat sink w/o a fan. Is there
any other diffence between the two boards? Which is better? Is this
and indication of a ver 1 or ver 2 motherboard? Thanks.

The Ver2 changed the SATA chip to the newest SIL part ( SI3512 ??)and it
added a BIOS clear jumper.

The Ver2 is the way to go.

A great board!!

They are (almost certainly, by THIS time) BOTH V2 boards. The V1
boards and 'early' V2 boards used problem-prone fans on the NB and GB
seems to have switched to HS's only on the most recent (revs. of) the
V2 boards.

FYI: above is based on personal experience. I have one of each - a V1
with fan, (early) V2 with fan and my most recent V2 (purchase) has the
HS only

Also would like to say that all-in-all, I conside them to be excellent
boards. 3 of the 5 PCs in my house run these boards and NB fan
problems aside (BOTH NB fans failed/had to be replaced within 6 months
or so of use), there have proven to be excellent and 'bang' (ie.
features) for the buck, they are hard to beat and have proven to be
very stable.

About the only OTHER complaint(s) I have heard about these (boards
which does not affect MY use) is poor IDE and SATA RAID perf. - no
better than non-raid in terms of perf. If that's not important to you,
I say you'd have a tough time beating this board for the $.$$.

I have a REV2 board with the HS only and the only complain I have with this
board is the high VCore Voltage (1.9V) for an Athlon 3200+. I sent an e-mail
to GigaByte about a week ago about the high VCore voltage and still waiting
on an answer.

Horst
