Hello people..

My anomaly is with my gigabyte GAK8NS Pro.

The board is brand new with firmware version F5 but not matter what I do I
cannot find out why the hard drive led is on even when there is not disk
activity at all.

To totally irradicate possible hard drive activity I disconnected the drive
and ran a boot disk into dos but still the light stays on when nothings is
happening in dos mode. Exactly the same as when the drive is connected and
running Windows. And cd/dvd were disconnected.

So now there is almost nothing connected yet the hdd light stays on??

I have other gigabyte mboards and never had this problem.

Hence I cannot see if there is any disk activity or not.

I have attempted to swap around the front panel connectors trying different
locations for the hdd light but still nothing.

Otherwise the disk works perfectly and performs faultlessly.

Any help or ideas please advise.

Thanks.....JOHN

it seems your hd led connections from the mb to your pc box are not well
done, or maybe the light in your box is faulty, follow the clear
instructions from the mb manual to connect that led, respecting polarity

Sounds like you got the HD Led hooked up to a power light (some boards have
a 3 port and a 2port power led pinset). If you put the HD Led cable on
Power-LED pinsets, the hd will stay on permanently.

Hello all..

Have found the problem and solution.

So I will share it with you as it nearly drove me nuts.

After completely stripping the mothrboards of all uneccessary stuff like
hard drives and cd/dvd I eventually saw that all was working correctly and
hdd light was flickering as it should only when accessed.

So one by one I reattached things.....and guess what the problem itme was??

.....my new DVD writer.......yep I am at a loss why myself...but the DVD
writer worked perfectly well so I had no suspicions that this might have
been the culprit.

So the solution was to reflash the DVD writer and all was working
fine.......go figure???

All the best...thanks ...JOHN
