Can someone recommend a site for a good description of what can be done
with an IPAQ PDA using WIFI?

Thanks

What can be done? :)
WiFi is simply wireless local area network. With this you can only connect
to Access Points and for example browse the internet without the wires. You
can buy one AP and connect it to your home network, which will give you
wireless internet access in whole of your appartment. You can also connect
to commercial or free hotspots located in some restaurants, cafes, airports
etc.

Here's a specific example... With wi-fi on my PPC, I have my PPC setup to
automatically check my hotmail account every 30 minutes. The PDA then tells
me 'You've got mail!' if a new email exists in my hotmail account. This is
very handy - no more checking my email manually!

Of course, I can then read and respond to my hotmaill also.

How about this...

While sitting on the covered patio (in the shade) under a ceiling fan (turned on of course),
drinking a cold beer while watching my two neighbors mow their grass when the heat index is 105 or
so, I can surf the internet, receive/send email and audio conference (using MS Portrait) with my
brother in Florida (who is also using his 802.11b equipped iPAQ).

Of course, this presumes you have a wireless network segment available to connect to and that you
can link to the public internet via that wireless network...

I originally got a WiFi CF card for my PPC to use as a backup email/internet
device for the other half when taking my laptop away for weeks at a time.
However we have also found ppc WiFi very useful as the recipient for
streaming internet radio from foreign radio stations. We simply set up
streaming audio on the Wireless lan then use PPC media player to receive it
anywhere in the house... Useful as we have a bi-lingual family... (I might
add that an extended capacity battery is a must if trying this!).

Ciao
