Memory question

You can install RAM as supported by the motherboard, but the
ratings such as DDR400 or DDR333 don't mean the RAM actually
runs at that speed, it just means that the RAM is certified
to be error free at that speed. If you put DDR400 on your
mobo, it will run with the 533 FSB and DDR333 speed.

To get DDR 400 speed you need to buy a new mobo and CPU that
will run at FSB800.

If you installed DDR333 in a system with a FSB800 it might
run or it would probably fail since it would be over-clocked
135%.

Hate to take a different question, but this was the only thread dealing
directly with installing memory.

Here's the situation: I have a PentiumIII, and had one stick of 128 memory
in it. I went to get a 2nd memory stick (still 128) to install, and the stick
says that it's "PC100/PC133 Compatible." However, when I booted up my
computer, it still is saying that I have only 128MB memory, instead of the
(now) installed 256MB.

Is there something that I'm missing? Do I need to reconfigure my computer
somehow so it recognizes all of the installed memory?

No reconfiguration necessary, plug it in and it should work. Obviously you
have a problem with the new one.
