I'm trying to use a game online that requires a certain port, but WinXP Home is blocking ports with a firewall. It set up the firewall because it is the host/gateway on my home network. What steps should I take to enable ports in certain ranges?

i dont think you can forward ports with the built in firewall. i recomend installing a real firewall. zonealarm is pretty good

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

What steps do you take to disable all firewall procedures in WinXP?

To turn off the built in firewall in XP:
right click "my network places", select properties
right click "local area connection", select properties
under the advanced tab, uncheck the firewall box

Thanks. I guess I could have figured that out. It seems as though the best way to implement firewalls is to get a third party version to customize ports and actions.

You CAN forward ports with the XP built in firewall.
It's rather simple, in the spot where you enable ICF there should be a button near the bottom marked settings. Just add the specific port you want if it isn't already listed.
