I have failed to load Ipod updater and Itunes software on my XP Professional
machine . Can anybody help. I have tried to install the software from the CD
and also latest downloads from the apple site to no avail. On install I get
the error message "String PRODUCT_NAME was not found in the string table"
followed by various other string?IDS error messages when I continue. Apple
said it was a problem with the PC software.

So far for info I have removed potential conflict software (such as CD
Burners and Virus software). I have edited the registry files. No icons
have shown up in the "Add/remove software" area of the control panel. Can
anyone advise?

First thing to do is forget about 'uninstalling' and use System Restore to
rest your PC to a date PRIOR to the first attempt to install the iTunes
application.

Forget about the installation CD and Download the latest iTunes 4.7 software
from:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Attempt to install with the new software only after a successful System
restore as the uninstall process does not remove all registry entries.
