This has never really been a concern since I never use the thing. But now I
want to create a boot disk so I need it working. I've made sure that it is
enabled in the BIOS but when ever I put a disk in there is no 'chewing'
noise and when I select the drive it say 'please insert disk'. I'm assuming
now that I need a driver to get it going? Does anyone have any other ideas?
thanks
Gary

No it makes no noise or light and my mb driver is up to date. I'm thinking
that now I may just need a new floppy drive

To the OP,
First the "joke answer" your subject is begging to get...try
Viagra if your floppy doesn't work.

Now for the problem with the floppy drive...
Open the computer and make sure that there drive cable (34
pin flat cable) is properly and securely inserted to the
mobo and drive. Also, make sure that the power lead is
securely connected to the drive. Boot the computer and make
sure that the A: drive is shown in the device manager and in
My Computer.

If it doesn't show, the drive is probably defective, you can
buy a new drive for about $10-20. If you have another
computer, just swap the floppy drives as a test.

Have just picked up on this trail, following the 'disappearance' of my floppy
drive. Not quite sure when this happened, but I have recently downloaded a
lot of XP updates which research suggests may be connected. According to
device manager, my flopy drive exists and is functioning, but I cannot get it
to recognise a floppy disc, or show up on My Computer.

All help gratefully received.
