After updating my Wi-Fi software driver in Windows XP it assigned a number
after the hardware device. Before I performed the hardware driver update,
my Wi-Fi adapter was listed in the as "Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network
Adapter" but after the update it is listed as "Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless
Network Adapter #3" Is there a way to remove the "#3"?

Go to Network Connections in Control Panel, right click on connection and
select "rename." :)

Jon, I was referring to the device name listed in device manager, not the
network connection applet. Is there a way to edit or rename the device name
listed in the device manager? Thanks.

David

Oh.. My Ethernet adapter indicates it's #4 and I'm guessing that's the
number of times I've reinstalled the dang thing :) There is probably a
registry hack for it but I don't know it. Sorry

Remove ALL instances in Device Manager including the hidden ones (View,
Show Hidden) rescan and you should have lost the number.
