I just bought a second hand EPSON Stylus COLOR 3000 printer. Kind of old
thing, but prints up to A2 and banners nicely.
I just have this problem, that it now and then just ejects a sheet of paper
without printing anything, and then stops. I suppose, there must be a
photocell or something, that "feels" when the paper is loaded. And that this
"feeler" is dirty or something.
Does anybody know anything about this? I want to repair it myself, but it
was nice to know something about it first.

There are two potential causes on the 3000 that I can think of.

1) if the paper doesn't get picked up at the correct time, so the
loading is late, the printer will eject it as a misfeed.

2) Incorporated into the head unit is a small Infra-red LED and a IR
sensor right next to it. The IR LED reflects light off the paper as the
head goes by, and tell the printer how wide the paper is via the IR
sensor. If they are getting weak, the paper is dark you are using, or
the sensor or LED is coated in ink from the print head which is light
next to it, it may not read the paper reflection correctly.
