USB mouse is not recognized while being used

Hello!

I have a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop with IntelliMouse Optical USB
mouse.
It used to work fine.
However, since 10 days ago, I've got error messages "USB Device is not
recognized" while I use the mouse and it stops working. (and the mouse
optical light is off)
So I have to unplug it and plug it back in.
Then it works.
It happens randomly and average every 30 minutes if I keep using it.
I believe that it happens only when I use it.
If I don't use it over night, it's still ok in the morning.

I installed the latest driver for it.
(Before it was Windows default driver).
But it didn't help.

Is this device's physical problem or software problem?
Any idea would be appreciated.

Connection/wiring problem perhaps?
