Unlucky or....?

I just had my second new MSI motherboard fail within the last two
months. The first, an 865PS Neo-2 PLS lasted about 28 days when it
failed to post at all one morning. It was diagnosed as bad and I got
(am awaiting) a refund from the retailer. I could not get an exact
replacement so purchased the 865PE Neo-2 PFS. It lasted about two
weeks when the USB system failed. Literally, one minute it was
working, and when I came back in to read my E-Mail after logging on,
they had quit (only two active USB devices were on at the time, and
both external hubs are powered). There is power to each of the USB
ports but no devices are recognized or seen by the system at all. I
disconnected the front and rear (D bracket) slots, but even the four
USB ports on the Mobo are not working. I am waiting to hear from MSI
as to possible solutions, but I suspect that this MOBO is also bad.

So I suppose that I am wondering if this is just a matter of my bad
luck, or what? I am seriously considering dumping the MSI mobo and
going with something else. Top contenders at this point are:

Intel D865PERLX
Asus P4P800SE 865PE (I am still running a P2B-F in another box)
Abit IS7-E i865PE

Please feel free to comment on my predicament, bad luck, or
alternative choices for another brand of Mobo.. THANKS!

Have you checked that your case isn't shorting out the motherboard, this has
been known to happen. Check for mount screws or if the case is made from
thin sheet metal that it isn't bending and making contact with the board.

Power Supplies have also been known to do this too, I would also suggest you
get a Surge/Spike protector too.

The case is a new Antec Sonata (+/- $100) with the special power
supply that comes with it ("True380s" 380 watts). The case is quite
sturdy and so I don't think that is the cause.

The first Mobo lasted a month and the second two weeks. The second one
is still working fine- just no USB data recognition.

The new Mobo (Asus) arrives today and so when I disassemble this
afternoon I will check out the shorting possibility just to make sure.

I have been running an APC Back-Ups 450 for a number of years as well
as surge protection (two additional power strips) on all other devices
including the modem.

Thanks for the reply.
