Tiny Wire Under CPU on K7 Master

Hi Folks,

I upgraded the Athlon XP on my MSI K7 Master-S recently. While I had
the CPU removed, I noticed that in the small, open square in the center
of the CPU socket there is a wire sticking up.

It's very short with black insulation except at the very tip, which is
bare. It's bent near the end so it would look like a number 7 from the
side. It's just long enough to reach the bottom of the CPU when it's
installed.

At first I thought it might be there to provide additional grounding on
the bottom of the CPU. When I looked at the bottom of the CPU I noticed
that there were some surface mounted components there, so this doesn't
seem likely.

Does anyone know what this little wire is for? Is it supposed to
contact the bottom of the CPU, or just come close?

-dreq

PS. Jokes are welcome, but if you go to the trouble please make them funny!

I would think it is a cpu temperature sensor - so the board does not have to
rely on the cpu internal sensor to provide temperature readings.

Yup, it is temperature sensor - it is either extra temperature sensor for
your mobo or your HSF adjusts speed of fan based on this temperature sensor
reading.
