Games Port Problem

New GA K8NS - 939 M/B. No game port on this so added a
Creative PCI sound card with game port for the Sidewinder.

Unable to load driver for this device as my game port is apparently not
correctly configured.

Under Properties in Device Manager I get this:

"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other
devices on this system.

OK.

Go to Set Configuration Manually. Under Resources I have 3 choices: Current
configuration (automatic), Basic Configuration 0000 and also ditto 0001.

Regardless of what I/O range I select a conflict is always flagged up. If
I ignore the conflict the bloody driver won't load for the same original
reason.

I'm at a loss. Is there any chance that loading FS 2004 will automatically
sort this out or must I get this sorted out before I load Flt Sim 2004?

Help really appreciated here!!

Did you install the Creative software (Drivers only) for the card?

Is ACPI enabled in the BIOS?

Flight Simulator 2004 will not fix this! This is a problem with XP. You
will need to check the Device Manager so as to see what could be
conflicting. Also, check the BIOS so as to see if there may have been a
gameport on the motherboard, but somehow you never receive the "physical
port".

No I did not install the Creative Drivers as I am using the mobo sound and
didn't want a conflict between 2 sound sources.

Will that happen?

Mobo sound card usually also have a gameport setting. You may need to turn
off ythe gameport in the BIOS.

You may want to try a different PCI slot furthest from the AGP slot (if
equipped). That may be the conflict.

Also, if you don't load the Creative drivers the Creative gameport may not
be recognised properly or have the proper drivers installed and be
non-functional - I suspect this but don't know for sure. Also, depending
upon the Creative card you bought - it might be a better quality sound than
your onboard sound card.

Does anyone make a gameport card only anymore (have they ever?)?

r.

Yes, but I haven't seen one for years.
